3 Things to Fill Your Idle Time

Have you ever heard the saying, “idle time is the enemy’s playground?”, it is!

Think back to the moments in time when your self-talk is the loudest. Idle time.  So, how can we be productive during our idle time? Fill it with things that fill our thoughts and mind.

  1. Books

  2. Music

  3. Journaling

Books 📚

In my personal experience, when I am reading a book that is inspirational or something I learn from, that is better than my self-talk. My self-talk tells me I am not good enough, I am a failure, or I am not wise enough. For me, I need “how to” books. Encouragement. Books from others who have gone before me and can teach me the ropes. Here are a few of my favorites.

Ok, that’s just a few and I have more!

Music🎶

It’s my go to every morning. During my workout, I play what I call, my fight songs. Here are four that are on repeat!

Journaling📖

I wish someone would have told me that I needed to write a journal when I went through breast cancer. I am a detailed person, so I can recall details about what I went through. However, if I had kept a journal, a daily journal, I think I would be able to help others more. The reality is I did not, but I can encourage you to keep a journal. Not only will you be able to recall the victories but the struggles and how you move past them. It is important to get the ugliness out of your mind. Again, self-talk is dangerous. It can paralyze you; it can isolate you.  The best way to deal with paralysis and isolation is to journal those thoughts, get them on paper and out of your head.

If you are going through cancer or another life changing event, find a book to read, listen to some inspirational music, and a journal. These 3 things can make a difference in your life!
